Scrub/OT-Theater Nurse

JOB SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the MSIE Centre Coordinator, Centre Head, Centre Manager, or IPD Head, the OR/Scrub Nurse at the MCH Specialty Center is responsible for providing essential perioperative nursing care and support during surgical procedures. This role involves preparing the operating room, ensuring the sterility of instruments and environments, and assisting the surgical team.

DUTIES/TASKS

• General: Provides nursing services, takes vital signs, applies aseptic techniques, ensures infection control, and monitors nutritional intake.
• Pre-Operative Preparation: Prepare the operating room, verify sterility of instruments, and assist in patient positioning and comfort.
• Intra-Operative Duties: Assist the surgical team by passing instruments, sponges, and sutures; maintain sterility of the surgical field; monitor all surgical supplies to prevent retained items.
• Post-Operative Care: Assist in patient transfer to recovery, ensure proper disposal of surgical waste, and restock the operating room.
• Collaboration and Communication: Report concerns to surgeons, maintain accurate documentation of counts/supplies, and assist in emergency situations.
• Patient Safety and Advocacy: Adhere to protocols, advocate for patient needs, and maintain confidentiality.
• Related Duties: Ensure high-level standards to prevent infection, account for assets during audits, and submit periodic reports.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

• Education: BSc in Nursing/ Operation Theater Specialty Nursing.
• Experience: Two Years’ relevant experience.
• Skills & Attributes: Proficient in perioperative nursing techniques; high level of accuracy; strong problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations; physical ability to stand for extended periods; pro-choice commitment.
